Financial accountability · Responsible care

The Continuum
Transparency Standard

A clear view of what specialist care actually costs.

As a physician-led, not-for-profit organization, we believe the organizations purchasing healthcare services deserve to understand what they are paying for. We are committing to account for every dollar paid to Continuum.

01 · The principle

Our healthcare values shouldn’t depend on who pays the bill.

Disability insurers help people unable to work because of psychiatric illness access specialist care. The resources they spend come from premiums paid by employers and employees. Those resources deserve the same responsible stewardship we expect throughout Canadian healthcare.

Healthcare professionals deserve fair compensation. Healthcare organizations need to be sustainable and have an obligation to demonstrate that their fees are reasonable and justified.

Established prices aren’t necessarily fair prices. If a price is reasonable, it should withstand scrutiny.

02 · The commitment

Where every dollar goes.

Each quarter, we will disclose how our revenues are allocated across six areas.

Physician compensation
Payment for the professional time and expertise involved in specialist care.
Clinical quality assurance
The clinical review and quality processes that support our standards of care.
Administration
The coordination and administrative work required to deliver our services.
Technology
The digital systems and tools used to support clinical service delivery.
Organizational overhead
The shared operating expenses required to sustain the organization.
Reinvestment in services
Resources directed back into clinical capacity, service quality and development.

03 · The actual cost

Beyond the fee.
The cost of delivering care.

Most importantly, we will disclose the actual average cost of delivering a psychiatric assessment, including all associated operating expenses.

Clients will be able to see how our $1,750 assessment fee relates to those costs. Our aim is to demonstrate that high-quality occupational psychiatric care can be delivered efficiently, at a fair and sustainable price, without compromising clinical standards.

04 · Financial reporting

Accountability you can examine.

We also intend to make our organization-wide financial reporting publicly accessible.

Reporting to follow

Quarterly disclosures will appear here.

This page sets out our commitment. Financial reports are not yet available here; quarterly revenue allocations and assessment delivery costs will be added as reporting becomes available.

A standard worth establishing

Transparency shouldn’t be a competitive advantage.
It should be the industry standard.

Every dollar spent unnecessarily is a dollar that could have supported another assessment, earlier treatment, or better care. We owe that accountability to our referral partners and, above all, to the people behind those referrals.
